CSTP Growth & Development

The best thing you can do for a person is to inspire them. That’s the best currency you can offer: inspiration.

Through the inquiry process I have found that my strengths lie in connecting subject matter to meaningful, real-life contexts (1.3) and monitoring student learning and adjusting instruction while teaching (1.6). During band rehearsals I frequently address the "why" of things by connecting them to songs or things that the children are already accustomed to (especially memes and popular culture!) Compared to my initial CTSP self-assessment, it seems I grew on average a whole point overall.

The area that I need to improve on is Developing as a Professional Educator. I agree with this because it has been a struggle for me to balance my professional and personal life (I have two beautiful kids that I spend a lot of time with). I plan on addressing this by attending instrument pedagogy classes over the summer (something I think I am lacking) and relevant workshops through my membership in SCSBOA (Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association).
